Environmental safety as element of integrated management system at DS SU NPP

DS SU NPP declares that environmental protection and environmental safety are elements of  integrated system of enterprise management.

DS SU NPP follows environmental policy aimed at:

- safe and stable development of enterprise with a glance of nature conservation

-  anthropogenic load reduction and minimization of impact on the environment

-  ensuring of environmental safety.

DS SU NPP in its activity meets main principles of environmental policy:

  • Responsibility;
  • Balance of economic, ecological and social interests;
  • Effective ecological management;
  • Application of the best contemporary technologies;
  • Principle of preventive measures;
  • Rise of ecological culture level;
  • Openness and transparency of decisions;
  • Open and reliable information for public about environment condition near DS SU NPP.

DS SU NPP environmental activity is carried out under the current Environmental Laws of Ukraine, the administration directive regulations, supervisory bodies’ requirements, and NNEGC “Energoatom” appropriate standards, norms, rules, instructions and directions.

Environmental Protection Department at DS SU NPP is responsible for monitoring of compliance with current Environmental Law of Ukraine in the area of non-radioactive impact, orders and instructions on environmental protection and rational use of natural resources.

Environmental Protection Department performs environmental protection activities and activities connected with natural resources use on the base of consent documents and licenses issued by state supervisory bodies.

In August 2014 DS SU NPP successfully passed the certification audit of environmental  management system. According the audit results the SU NPP environmental management systems meet the requirements of international standard ISO14001:2004.

In 2015 the auditors of “TYuF NORD Ukraine” confirmed that SU NPP management system meets the requirements of international standards ISO9001:2008 and ISO14001:2004.

Ecological Monitoring

Ecological monitoring of DS SU NPP objects includes:

  • Control of pollution emissions into atmosphere from DS SU NPP stationary sources;
  • Condition monitoring of water bodies located in the zone of DS SU NPP impact;
  • Hydrological researches;
  • Hydrogeological researches;
  • Meteorological observations;
  • Non-radioactive wastes handling monitoring;
  • Internal audits of environmental management system in DS SU NPP departments.

Ecological Monitoring Quantitative Indicators

In 2012 Environmental Protection Department carried out the following activities:

  • 24419 chemical researches on 31 physicochemical and bacteriological parameters;
  • 12217 researches on 11 hydrological and hydrogeological parameters;
  • 75163 meteorological researches on 33 meteorological parameters, also Environmental Protection Department made 118 storm warnings;
  • 22 internal audits of environmental management system at SU NPP departments. Based on the audits’ results the SU NPP departments developed 140 corrective measures (121 corrective measures are performed, performance of 19 corrective actions is planned in 2016).

Conclusion

Terms of effective permits for special water use of SU NPP facilities are followed, limits of water intake and discharge don’t exceed authorized standards. Water quality in control points of  water bodies meets the standards of maximum  permissible concentration.

Sampling and chemical researches of water in water bodies covered by SU NPP monitoring area are performed by certified ecological and chemical laboratory (Environmental Protection Department) according to the approved regulations. Monitoring results are reflected in the reports and they are promptly sent to the authorized state supervisory bodies.

During operation of DS SU NPP we had no accidental releases, burst releases as well as exceeding of approved maximum permissible release of pollutants into atmospheric air.

 

Handling with non-radioactive wastes at SU NPP is performed according to the requirements of current Environmental Law of Ukraine.

 

Based on the current legislation and calculation (used water, emissions, pollutant discharges, production residue placement) SU NPP calculates and pay into budget the rental payment (for special use of water) and environmental tax.

 

The results of environment monitoring (it has been conducted at SU NPP area from the beginning of its operation) confirm that NPP doesn’t have considerable impact on natural environment of region and is safe for population and environment.
